The Ridgemont Board of Education took a significant step in their PreK-12 building project at their regular monthly meeting Thursday night.
The board approved the Real Estate Transfer Agreement with the Elliott Land & Development Company to accept their donation of 40 acres on State Route 273 just west of Mt. Victory. The land will be the site of the new PreK-12 facility.
The board approved the Program of Requirements Design Phase Submission for their new school. The core and design teams have worked with school personnel, community members, parents, and students to complete square footage allocations. Ridgemont is set to move forward into the schematic design phase of the building program.
After nearly ten years of serving the district as a non-gratis partner, SHP: Leading Design was hired as the school's paid architect to complete the new building design and construction. The board said the paid agreement reaffirms their support of the firm and head architect Todd Thackery. The company will work with the district through their current design phases until after the school moves into the new facility in the 2015-2016 school year.
The board voted to support the Ridgemont Education Association's recent resolution to support meetings to discuss student data, plan instructional strategies, and work on alignment issues to promote the educational objectives of the district. The association understands that sometimes a teacher's day goes beyond the contractual school day to improve the quality of education at Ridgemont.
Finally, Ridgemont is seeking snow removal bids for the 2012-2013 school year.
The next monthly meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 25th at 5 p.m. in the high school library.
