Bellefontaine Board recognizes three seniors (Audio & video included)

The Bellefontaine Board of Education had a brief but eventful meeting Monday night. Student recognition and program updates highlighted the agenda.

Emma Earick (pictured left) and Evan Snapp received recognition from the board for being named the high school's seniors of the month for September.

Rohan Prasad, who volunteered his time at a school for the blind in India over the summer, was honored with the President's Volunteer Service Award. In part, Prasad received a congratulatory letter from President Obama.

Denise Johnson, Race to the Top representative, updated the board on a significant upcoming professional development event on November 12th called Waiver Day. It's a day off school for students with the teachers receiving opportunities to learn about several topics. The evaluation process, co-teaching, mastery connect software (a desegration of test data program), value added, STEM, and tours of the new building are among the initiatives available to staff on that day.

High school principal Christine Galvin provided information on two separate programs. The Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF grant) is now in its third year. The money is a reward for teachers who complete projects that are geared toward school improvement.

The College and Career Readiness Team, a district-wide committee that began this year, is an effort geared toward having graduating students better prepared for college or the world of work. Presently, the group is gathering information from local businesses, students and parents to determine the present effectiveness level of preparing students for college or work.

The next meeting for the board will be Monday, October 22nd at 6:30.
