The Logan County Sheriff's Office has been awarded a federal traffic safety grant of $31,669.14 for fiscal year 2013.
Sheriff Andy Smith (pictured) says the funds will be used for extra enforcement to help reduce impaired driving.
Smith said, "Based on crash data, impaired driving and fatal crashes are a priority for Logan County and we are pleased to work with our partners at the state level to address these safety issues."
Crash data from 2009-2011 shows that 210 crashes were related to impaired driving. These crashes caused injuries to 133 people and 13 fatalities. A total of 32 fatalities happened during the three-year period.
Deputies will conduct high visibility enforcement, work overtime hours, and host educational/awareness events.
The grant dollars originate from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
