An area driver was killed in a car/train collision near Sidney Thursday night around 8:30.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office reports that William Takas, 77, of Anna, was northbound on River Road when his car became stuck on the tracks.
Takas called 911 and said a train was coming.
Dispatchers repeatedly instructed him to get out of the car.
Moments later, his vehicle was struck by a southbound CSX train.
Takas was pronounced dead at the scene.
It appears that he drove his vehicle onto the tracks and became stuck.
No one on the train was injured.
Deputies were assisted by the Lockington Fire Department, Houston EMS, and Shelby County Coroner's Office.
The accident remains under investigation.
