A local driver was killed in a two-vehicle crash north of Huntsville at the intersection of State Route 117 and County Road 96 Monday morning around 5:30.
The Marysville Post of the State Highway Patrol reports that James Payer, 38, of 8479 Township Road 115, Ridgeway, was driving a 2000 Honda Accord westbound on 96 when he failed to yield and pulled into the path of a southbound 2001 International 4900 straight truck operated by Shadd Shaffer, 34, of 3463 County Road 200, Belle Center.
Payer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Shaffer suffered minor injuries. He was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital by BMRT EMS.
The Logan County Sheriff's Office, Logan County Haz-Mat Team, Huntsville Fire and EMS, Richland Township Fire, and BMRT Squad assisted at the scene.
It's the sixth fatal accident in Logan County this year.
Moments later, the sheriff's office responded to an injury accident just south of the fatal crash.
Details have not been released.
Also, the sheriff's office reports that a car struck the Muchinippi Church on State Route 274 west of Lewistown around seven a.m.
An unnamed driver was northbound on County Road 21 when they went through the stop sign and hit the church.
The driver was not injured.
Damage to the church was minimal.
Deputies continue their investigation.
West Central Ohio was under a dense fog advisory for several hours.
