The Ohio Senate approved legislation Tuesday sponsored by State Senator Dave Burke, pictured, (R- Marysville) authorizing joint boards of county commissioners to conduct routine business via teleconference or video conference. Burke introduced Senate Bill 207 after the county commissioners in Seneca and Sandusky counties expressed a desire to hold proceedings on existing improvement projects in a manner that promoted greater efficiency and public input.
“Allowing county commissioners to use modern communication technologies will allow them to operate more efficiently, and also gives the public more opportunities to express their views and become involved in their local government,” Burke said. “This common sense change will help local officials save time and money while ensuring that important improvement projects move forward in a timely fashion.”
Senate Bill 207 now moves to the Ohio House of Representatives for further consideration. Similar legislation has been introduced in that chamber by Representative Rex Damschroder (R- Fremont).
