The driver responsible for an August crash that killed two local teen passengers entered a plea in Bellefontaine Municipal Court Friday to avoid a trial.
Matthew Gilman (pictured), 23, of Knoxville, Tennessee, pleaded no contest to two counts of vehicular homicide.
Judge Ann Beck ordered Gilman to the Logan County Jail until he is sentenced on January 16th.
Judge Beck found Gilman guilty for a two-vehicle crash that killed passengers Megan Smith, 19, of West Liberty, and Matthew Stewart, 19, of DeGraff, on August 3rd.
The Logan County Sheriff's Office said Gilman was northbound on Route 68 near Oakhill Medical Center when he drove to the right of a vehicle that was stopped to make a turn into a business.
Gilman drove into a ditch, overcorrected, and then crossed the centerline into the path of a southbound vehicle driven by Jarrad Parker, 36, of Marysville.
Gilman was taken from the scene by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. Parker was transported to Mercy Memorial Hospital in Urbana by Riverside EMS while a passenger in Parker's vehicle, Steven Curtis, 36, of Sardinia, was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital by Macochee EMS.
Smith and Stewart were pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash closed Route 68 for over three hours.
