The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a single-vehicle crash near River Road early Tuesday morning around 3 o’ clock.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the caller seemed to be unsure of the exact location of the crash. Deputies searched the surrounding area and found the site of the crash on Miami River Road between East Lockington and Kirkwood roads shortly after 3 a.m.
Ryan M. Evans, 29, was northbound on Miami River Road when he lost control on the icy pavement and slid off the left side of the road through a patch of heavy brush and struck a tree. The passenger, Brittany Elliot, 21, called for help and walked to a nearby residence.
Evans was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital by Houston Rescue and then transported to Miami Valley Hospital by squad. At the time he was transported, he was listed in serious condition. Careflight was unable to fly due to the weather conditions.
Elliot was transported by a second Houston Rescue squad to Wilson Memorial Hospital. She sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the crash.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Houston Rescue and the Lockington Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The crash is still under investigation.
