Information Technology students have been working hard to create professional-grade flyers that advertise Louie Vito’s annual rail jam.
Ohio Hi-Point Information Technology Instructor Justin Lacher decided to create an in-class contest among his students to allow them to showcase their graphic design capabilities. Lacher says he wanted the contest to give his students real-world experience for their future careers.

Lacher also says the contest gave the students a chance to get involved in their community.
The goal for students was to create a flyer that promoted Louie Vito’s annual rail jam held at Mad River Mountain. Lacher wanted his students to design a poster for a large-scale event and for a real audience—Louie Vito Rail Jam attendees—that was pleasing to the eye.
Junior Information Technology Student Taylor Wick, of North Lewisburg, was chosen as the winner by Louie Vito’s agent. His poster is pictured above.
Students had about one week to complete the project.
Lacher says he hopes to hold another contest like this one next year for his students.
