The Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Board met Thursday.
Superintendent Kris Myers reported that the board is looking to add Biddy Wrestling to its programs for next year. The board is working with coaches and people who participate in the program to make the addition possible. The board hopes to be an additional resource for the program.
Superintendent Myers also gave an update on water usage at the pool. Over the summer, the recreation district installed a liner at the pool. Myers reported that this winter, the district has had to add very little water to pool to maintain its winter water level. In previous years, the district has had to constantly add water to the pool during the winter months.
The board touched on the Simon Kenton Bike Path. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has approved a Clean Ohio Trail Fund Grant for the project. The $500,000 grant will be used to extend the Simon Kenton Trail from Urbana north through West Liberty and into Bellefontaine. The path will initially be gravel to get it to Bellefontaine and paving the path will be considered in the future.
Looking back on 2012, the recreation district made many improvements at the pool and also added adaptive recreation programs for children with special needs.
Myers comments on the meeting.
The Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District Board will meet again on February 5th at 7 pm.
