The Human Society Serving Logan County is providing services for animals within the county without homes.
The Humane Society is a non-profit organization run by a board of directors that gives animals shelter and finds them homes.
The organization provides vaccinations, spaying and neutering, and behavior testing to animals that are brought into the shelter. Behavior testing is done to find out what home would best suit each animal. The Humane Society also offers cat spaying and neutering to the public.
Dog washes and taking the animals into the public are some of the ways the Humane Society raises awareness. They also offer education on the importance of spaying and neutering animals, buying dog licenses, and having your animals micro-chipped. On average, when a person loses a pet only 10 to 15 percent ever get their animal back.
It takes about $330,000 to $340,000 to operate the shelter. The Humane Society serving Logan County is funded through donations, adoption fees, dog washes, Bingo, and 10 percent of dog license revenue.
Bingo brings in roughly 30 to 40 percent of the funds that run the shelter. Bingo is held every Tuesday and Thursday and on the first Saturday of the month at the Richland Township Hall, 615 Center Street, Belle Center. One Bingo ticket cost $17 dollars.
The Humane Society has recently started a dog training program. The program allows owners to better understand their pet’s behavior. The class is one day a week, for six weeks. The Humane Society's goal for the program is to keep the dog in the home.
