WLS Science Olympiad teams fare well in season-opener

The West Liberty-Salem Science Olympiad varsity and junior varsity teams competed in their first invitational of the season Saturday at Northmont.

Typically, two team members compete in an event. Medals are awarded for 1st through 3rd place and ribbons are awarded for 4th through 6th. 23 teams competed in this invitational.

The varsity Tigers placed 10th or higher in the following events:

Boomilever 3rd – Rachel Hostetler and Becky Wilkins

Helicopters 3rd – Connor Motzko and Andrew Landis

Water Quality 4th – Rachel Hostetler and Becky Wilkins

Write It Do It 6th – Andrew Landis and Rachel Hostetler

Meteorology 6th – Ian Higgins and Nathaniel Benedict

Rocks and Minerals 6th – Nathaniel Benedict and Connor Motzko

Sounds of Music 8th – Ian Higgins and Nathaniel Benedict

Rotor Egg Drop 9th – Raajih Roland

Mouse Trap Vehicle 10th – Michael Price and Thoryn Johnson

Dynamic Planet 10th – Becky Wilkins and Nathaniel Benedict

Food Science 10th – Rachel Hostetler and Thoryn Johnson

The JV team placed 10th or higher in the following events:

Helicopters 4th – Tyler Motzko and Zane Woodruff

Boomilever 5th – Chloe Spencer and Zach Mical

Road Scholar 9th – Zach Mical and Tyler Motzko

Water Quality 9th – Lauren Fowler
