
An unnamed 16-year-old Urbana High School student faces criminal charges after he admitted to bringing a BB gun to school Monday morning.
Superintendent Charles Thiel said the incident was handled quickly after another student notified school administrators.
The Urbana Police Department responded to the school around ten o'clock. Administrators had the student secured in the principal’s office.
According to officers, the BB gun was unloaded.
The student was arrested and transported to a juvenile detention facility in Marysville. The boy will remain in custody until a court appearance in Urbana scheduled for later this week.
He was charged with the following:
-Illegal conveyance or possession of a deadly weapon or ordnance or of object indistinguishable from a firearm in a school safety zone, a first-degree misdemeanor.
-Inducing panic, a first-degree misdemeanor.
-Disorderly conduct, a fourth-degree misdemeanor
The school was never placed under lockdown.
Parents were notified of the situation around 12:30 p.m.
