The announcement of a new firefighter for the Bellefontaine Fire Department topped council Tuesday.
Fire Chief J.P. Schulz said there will be a swearing-in ceremony for Brandon Rutherford (pictured right) on Friday at 2:30 pm in council chambers. Rutherford has been trained and is a member of the Bellefontaine Fire Department's Auxiliary.
With the addition the department will increase to 19 firefighters, including Chief Schultz. This means there will be three six-man shifts.
Schulz discusses the addition.
In other council news, an ordinance and a resolution were adopted.
The ordinance allows for an enterprise zone agreement with AcuSport Corporation. AcuSport will begin expanding its Bellefontaine facility in the spring and will be creating 80 new jobs over the next two years. The agreement allows for a property tax abatement of about 75 percent for ten years.
The resolution allows the state of Ohio to replace non-crashworthy guardrails along US 33 and US 68 within Bellefontaine. The guardrail replacements will be paid for with state funds.
Streets Committee Chair Deb Baker explains the resolution.
A Treasury Investment Board meeting was scheduled for January 22nd at 6 pm in the municipal building.
Bellefontaine City Council will meet again on January 22nd at 7:30 pm.
