The Ridgemont Board of Education elected Cheryl France as Board President and Corey Ledley as Vice President of the board during their annual organizational meeting Thursday. Eric Hill was named President Pro Tempore. The board will hold monthly meetings on the fourth Thursday of the month at 5pm for 2013. The only exceptions will be November and December due to the holidays. November’s meeting will be on the 21st and December’s will be on the 19th.
First Grade Shares Service Learning Project
Students from Mrs. Ledley and Mrs. Eyerman’s classes shared their service-learning project with the Board of Education. Students created Christmas gift tags to be sold at local businesses to raise money to purchase gifts for babies at Children’s Hospital. Students shared how they analyzed last year’s sales data to determine the best stores to sell in and how they used reading and math curriculum to guide their project. Anew Studios donated funds for students to travel to Children’s Hospital to deliver the gifts they had purchased with proceeds from the sale. The Board of Education applauds Ms. Eyerman and Ms. Ledley for incorporating state standards into an authentic and meaningful learning project. The board also shares its praise for the presentation skills the young students demonstrated.
Board Recognition Month
Superintendent Emmy Davis thanked the Ridgemont Board of Education for being unified and dedicated to the students of the district. She commented that while in many districts there may be tension among the board and the district’s leadership, she is thankful to work on a team that is supportive and focused on a vision of moving the district forward. She presented each member with a certificate of appreciation and thanked them for their service. She ended by asking the community and staff to share their gratitude with the board members as well.
Several personnel changes were made. The board accepted the retirement and resignation of Harlan Needham, Elementary School Principal, and Robert Smith, Technology Coordinator, respectively. Jerry Salyer resigned as high school custodian and Gene Ledley was hired to replace him. Brenda Zachery was hired as the elementary second shift custodian. Jessica Kroetz was transferred to the district’s Data and Instructional Coach while Rachel Burch was hired to take over the position of school counselor.
Thanks to Ridgemont Partners
Ridgemont FFA and Ag students job shadowed at over 50 businesses around the region. Students work to discover areas of interest and explore future options. Ridgemont is grateful to have so many partners who would open their doors to students. They also thanked community members who taught classes at the high school.
Building Project Update
Superintendent Davis met with both staff and the community on Thursday to update them on the design plans for Ridgemont’s new PreK-12 facility. Plans include extended learning areas, operable classroom walls for multi-age work, collaboration, and co-teaching, small group rooms for individual and small group instruction, a café design for the cafeteria, and a community square for walking programs open to residents. Likewise, she shared the building will be wired for one on one computing and for Wi-Fi for all students. The district is strongly focused on building a facility that will carry the district into the decades to come as a successful and prominent school district in cutting edge technology and instruction.
