The West Liberty Salem Middle School Science Olympiad teams competed at the multi-state invitational held at Wright State University on Saturday, January 12.
58 teams from 14 states competed in 25 events.
From the WL-S varsity team, Becky Wilkins and Rachel Hostetler took fifth in Boomilever, Nathaniel Benedict and Connor Motzko finished fifth in Rocks and Minerals, Hostetler and Andrew Landis scored fifth in Write It Do It, and fourteenth in Rotor Egg Drop was Raaj Roland and Trace Robinaugh.
Placing for the junior varsity team was Raaj Roland and Trace Robinaugh, taking fourth in Boomilever and a ninth place finish from Tyler Motzko and Zane Woodruff in Helicopters.
Wright State University will be hosting the national Science Olympiad competition this year. The weekend’s invitational had the feel of a larger national-level competition, and although extremely difficult, was excellent practice for WL-S leading up to regionals.
