An Urbana High School student was arrested following a threatening message hoax Monday afternoon.
The Urbana Police Department reports that Brianne Castle, 18, of rural Urbana, was charged with inducing panic after allegedly writing the threat.
Around 1 pm while at the school for an unrelated matter, several Urbana police officers were approached by a student asking if they were present due to a message that was written on a women’s restroom stall door.
The threatening message indicated there would be an explosion at the school at a specific time.
The officers showed the message to Assistant Principal Tom Marchetti and the school was put under lockdown.
During the investigation, officers and high school personnel determined that the threat was a hoax.
Castle was lodged in the Tri-County Regional Jail.
