Avila was running westbound along the south side of the road when he turned right and attempted to cross the street near the access road to the school.
Washington Township Police Chief Rick Core reports that Avila was transported from the scene by MedFlight to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.
Family members report that Avila suffered a fractured skull, but he did not suffer any brain damage.
Avila also suffered multiple injuries to his body, including his elbow and calf.

The three other students running with Avila crossed the roadway moments before the accident.
