During a meeting Monday, Lakeview Council discussed its first forum meeting.
The forum meeting was conducted last Thursday after residents recently approached Mayor Ryan Shoffstall and council members about reinstating the village police department. The village has been without a police department since 2005.
Council put together a committee that spent three months researching costs and needs of a police department. Income taxes or kilowatt taxes on electricity are among the proposed ways of funding a police department.
During the first forum meeting, the committee presented its information to residents. The meeting was also held to get a feel for community support on a police department.
A second forum meeting is scheduled for Wednesday at 7 pm in the municipal building. The village is still seeking community opinion and will do an overview of the first forum meeting.
Shoffstall comments on the forum meetings.
In other council news, Terry Brentlinger was sworn-in as council president.
The next regular meeting of the Lakeview Village Council is February 4th at 7:30 pm. Mayor Shoffstall will give the State of the Village address and council will recap Wednesday's forum meeting.
