Response areas in Champaign County for the Macochee Joint Ambulance District have been agreed following negotiations between the district board and the trustees of Harrison and Salem Townships. This finalizes all parts of the response boundary for Macochee EMS within Champaign and Logan counties.

The trustees of Harrison and Salem Townships declined to formally join the Macochee Joint Ambulance District, but instead opted to maintain a contract coverage arrangement. The newly negotiated contracts are based on a combination of direct payments from the townships combined with increased patient billing rates.
The new Macochee EMS coverage area totals 89.6 square miles with an estimated population of 6,400 residents. This represents a reduction of 27% in coverage area and 19% in population over the old response area. A summary of changes by township follows:
Concord Township: Macochee EMS no longer provides service to Concord Township. Areas previously covered by Macochee EMS are now covered by the City of Urbana.
Harrison Township: Macochee EMS covers all addresses on State Route 245 to the east of the stop sign in Springhills, and covers all areas to the north of State Route 245 and east of Springhills. Macochee EMS also covers all areas to the east of Wesley Chapel Road, but not including addresses on that road. Areas formerly covered by Macochee EMS are now covered by Rosewood.
Salem Township: Macochee EMS provides coverage for the northern third of the township, southward to Lippincott Road, Short Game Farm Road, Sibley Road, Kennard-Kingscreek Road and Flatfoot Road (but not including addresses on these roads). Coverage includes all addresses in the Kennard community. The City of Urbana provides coverage to areas no longer protected by Macochee EMS.
Macochee EMS began its levy-funded 24/7 staffing plan on January 1st, providing improved response times and quality of care to residents of the coverage area. Macochee Joint Ambulance District board meetings are held at 7:00 pm on the second Thursday of each month at the West Liberty Town Hall and are open to the public.
While the coverage areas of Macochee EMS and the West Liberty Fire Department have traditionally been concurrent, this is no longer the case. The West Liberty Fire Department will continue to cover its historical area based on its independently negotiated contracts with the townships involved.
