In October of 2008, Alice Strawser (pictured) started volunteering for the Discovery Riders to keep herself busy during her retirement.
Her generosity with her time and efforts over the next four years has now earned her the title of 2012 Volunteer of the Year from the Discovery Riders.
The Discovery Riders is an accredited therapeutic riding center for special needs children and adults. Despite having no previous experience with horses, Strawser attended educational clinics and soon became a horse leader and now mentors new volunteers. She also started helping with scheduling volunteers for classes, in what the release from the Discovery Riders called a "HUGE help" for the staff.
Strawser volunteered a total of 247 hours for the Discovery Riders in 2012.
The Discovery Riders is located on State Route 292 near Zanesfield.
