An area woman was killed and her dog was injured in a one-vehicle accident near Ft. Loramie Thursday afternoon around 2:30.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office reports that Ina Smith, 50, of Minster, was driving a 1990 Jeep Cherokee eastbound on Canal Road when she lost control while trying to negotiate a left hand curve east of State Route 66. The vehicle went off the right side of the road and struck a tree.
Smith, who was trapped in the Jeep, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Smith's German Shepherd was injured and taken to the Shelby County Animal Shelter until family members could pick up the dog.
The Jeep suffered heavy damage.
Ft. Loramie Fire, Ft. Loramie Rescue, Ft. Loramie Police, and the Shelby County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.
Deputies continue their investigation.
