A Benjamin Logan Elementary fourth-grade student’s definition of science fair is having fun with science. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary definition of science fair is a competitive exhibition of science projects usually carried out by schoolchildren. Combined, both definitions define what happened recently at Benjamin Logan Elementary. The science fair was an awesome display from first to fourth grade. With approximately 200 projects displayed, students presented their projects to volunteer science fair judges. The judges were impressed with the students’ knowledge of the scientific process and the creativity of the projects. One judge explained, “A lot of the students wanted to explore topics that they were genuinely interested in.”

A typical science fair day involves the participants being judged in the morning. This is followed by a school-wide tradition - the Benjamin Logan elementary students browse the hallways of the building observing the displayed projects. Later on, the same evening, an open house is held for the community to see an amazing display of science.
These are a few favorite student memories of science fair - doing the investigation, learning about science, creating a board, working with a best friend, doing a new thing, telling the judges what the project was about, walking around the school to look at all of the boards, and getting a science fair participation badge.
