The Logan County Land Trust held their 7th Annual Meeting recently at the Logan County Solid Waste District’s facility in Bellefontaine. President Vicky Boots gave a review of accomplishments for 2012 and shared the land trust’s mission. Logan County Land Trust currently monitors nine agricultural easements on behalf of the Ohio Department of Agriculture. Four of the easements are under the Agricultural Easement Purchase Program and five are under the Agricultural Easement Donation Program. Total acreage protected in Logan County under both programs encompassed 3,455 acres that are permanently protected for agricultural use.
Elections were held at the annual meeting. Gary Carson was elected to serve as the trust’s newest director. Deb Roberts, Renee Winner, Randy Smith, Louise Dunham, George Feltham, Seth Middleton, and Jim Myer were re-elected to serve as directors.
Matt Harbage, manager of the U.S.D.A. Natural Resources Conservation Service Farm and Ranch Land Protection Program, was the guest speaker.
A re-organizational meeting was held at the close of the program. Randy Smith was elected president, Renee Winner vice president, Louise Dunham secretary, and Deb Roberts assistant secretary/treasurer. President Smith called the meeting back to order and past president Vicky Boots was recognized for her leadership, hard work, and dedication as president over the past three years. Smith said, “Without dedicated volunteers and leaders such as Vicky Boots, the Land Trust would not be in existence to assist land owners in preserving Logan County’s agricultural and rural heritage.”
The Logan County Land Trust members are land owners, farmers, conservationists, business professionals, educators, and other community members interested in preserving farmland, scenic open spaces, and other natural areas to maintain the integrity and rural charter of Logan and surrounding counties.
