Urbana Police make arrest following attempted robbery

The Urbana Police Department made an arrest after an attempted robbery Wednesday afternoon around 5:30.

Dustin Macy (pictured), 26, of Urbana, was arrested for reportedly trying to rob a 63-year-old Urbana woman in the Big Lots parking lot at 747 Scioto Street.

The victim said she was approached by Macy after she parked her vehicle to go into the store.

Macy, who is 6’5” and 300 lbs, allegedly demanded the victim give him her purse numerous times.

The victim refused to turn the purse over and told a person she was talking over a Bluetooth phone with that she was being robbed and started to describe Macy.

Macy then got into a vehicle and fled the scene.

The victim gave police a description of Macy and the vehicle.

While responding to the incident, officer Jeff Roberts observed the vehicle and followed it southbound on South Main Street. He later stopped the vehicle on Route 68 south of Urbana near the Dance Studio.

Macy was taken into custody and was later identified by the victim. He was lodged in the Tri-County Jail in Mechanicsburg.

He faces third-degree felony robbery charges and is due in Champaign County Municipal Court on Thursday morning.

Macy was convicted of theft in 2011.
