Two city roommates were arrested on felony charges following a strong-armed robbery at Dollar General, 338 East Columbus Avenue, Monday afternoon around 4:45.
The Bellefontaine Police Department reports that Charles Bray (pictured), 30, and Kyle Jacks (pictured below), 23, both of 402 1/2 East Columbus Avenue, entered the store.
Witnesses saw the men drinking large bottles of beer before they entered the business.
Once inside, they separated. Moments later, Bray went to the counter with a box of Crest toothpaste. He then gave a note to the cashier that said "give me all the money in the register or I'll blow your head off."
The female clerk said she didn't have a key to open the register.
Bray then raised his voice and said she better hurry or he'll do it.
After ringing up the toothpaste, the clerk complied and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash.
Bray picked up the note and left the store.
Witnesses saw him run behind the house at 400 East Columbus Avenue.
An officer spoke with Jacks at his residence. He said no one matching the description of the robber was inside.
About 20 minutes later, officers learned that both suspects were inside.
Within an hour, Bray and Jacks came outside and surrendered.
Bray was charged with robbery and Jacks was charged with obstructing justice.
Both of them were lodged in the Logan County Jail.
After getting a search warrant, officers found clothing matching the suspects' description and note cards similar to the one used in the robbery. The money was not recovered.
A detective from the Logan County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
