A local driver was arrested on multiple charges following three hit-skip crashes in the city Wednesday afternoon around 2:30.
The Bellefontaine Police Department reports that Lawrence Presley (pictured), 54, of 589 Township Road 129, Zanesfield, was driving a 2005 Chevy Impala southbound on South Detroit Street when he rear-ended a trailer being towed by Robert Grimes, 52, of 101 North Elm Street, Bellefontaine.
Grimes confronted Presley about the accident, but he fled southbound.
Presley then ran the stop sign at Detroit and Carter and hit a westbound 2005 Honda Civic operated by Riemke Melzer, 71, of 129 Plumvalley Street, Bellefontaine.
The collision spun Melzer's car around 90 degrees.
Presley left the scene and struck a guy wire on South Detroit Street at Clarkson Avenue.
Moments later, officers found Presley's vehicle at Brookstone Apartments at 500 Gunntown Road.
The vehicle was badly damaged. The right front wheel was running on the rim.
Presley was located inside apartment E12.
Presley, who admitted to drinking, was charged with OVI, failure to maintain assured clear distance, stop sign violation, failure to control, and three counts each of leaving the scene and failure to reinstate his license.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
No one was injured in the crashes.
