A local track standout was recognized by the Ohio House of Representatives at the Statehouse on Wednesday.
Meghan Vogel of West Liberty-Salem High School was presented a resolution on behalf of the assembly recognizing her outstanding effort on and off the track.
Vogel recently won the 2013 Division III Indoor Track and Field State Championship in the 1600-meter race. In the past, she has also competed in and won the championship outdoor 1600-meter at the state level.
She is widely known for her act of sportsmanship in the 2012 state track meet by helping carry a fallen competitor (Arden McMath) across the finish line in the 3200-meter event.
State Representative John Adams of Sidney (pictured with Vogel) presented the resolution to Vogel. “I’m proud of all that Meghan has done,” Adams said.
“She has accomplished a great deal in long-distance running, and she has done so while showing the highest level of sportsmanship,” Adams explained. “I’m pleased that the Ohio House of Representatives could honor her today.”
Vogel, a recent West Liberty-Salem graduate, will run cross country and track at Penn State.
