Man arrested on multiple extortion counts

A Columbus man was arrested Friday after he allegedly threatened a co-worker at Environmental Management, 8220 Industrial Parkway, Plain City.

The Union County Sheriff's Office arrested Thomas Coverdale (pictured), 42, after he forced a payroll clerk to falsify time sheets to increase his pay.

The total amount paid to Coverdale over a period of time was in excess of $10,000.

Deputies charged Coverdale with three counts of extortion. Each charge is a third-degree felony.

Coverdale was arrested on South High Street in Columbus, then lodged in the Tri-County Jail in Mechanicsburg.

Union County officials were assisted by the Franklin County Sheriff's Office Special Investigative Unit.

Coverdale appeared in Marysville Municipal Court Monday morning and was held on a $75,000 bond.

Deputies continue their investigation.
