A guilty plea to a child pornography charge will send Mickell E. Close, 32, of Quincy, to prison for the next 25 years, in accordance with the sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Edmund A. Sargus Jr. in U.S. District Court Thursday.
Close, pictured left, pleaded guilty on January 17 to one count of using minors to engage in sexually-explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of the conduct. He was arrested at his home in Quincy Nov. 9 on a number of related charges and has been in jail in Columbus since.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office, agents from Homeland Security Investigations, the Franklin County Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and multiple other investigative agencies assisted in gathering the evidence against Close, who in one instance covertly recorded videos of three young females, one as young as three, while they were nude in his bathroom. He posted thousands of images online and used his computer to trade for similar pictures with other pornographers.
Close was already a registered sex-offender in Logan County, have been convicted of gross sexual imposition with a three-year-old female victim in 2000.
