Beth Deisher (Pictured), a local author and coin expert had a book signing at Peach Tree Books and Gifts Saturday afternoon for her new book Cash in Your Coins.
Deisher’s newest book is for those who don’t know much about the coins they have and would like to learn how much they’re worth and where to sell them. This is in contrast from her last book Making the Grade which is more directed at collectors who could identify the different grades of their coins and match them with the examples listed in her book. Cash in Your Coins gives everyone who reads it the chance to gain a little bit more knowledge on the coins they possess and an opportunity to discover their value without having to spend a large sum of money getting them appraised.
Deisher, who lived in Logan County with her husband Art for 35 years, was very excited to do a book signing in Bellefontaine saying, “It’s a great opportunity to see friends, and we’ve seen some family members today even and it’s great to just catch up.” Deisher, who worked for Coin World Magazine out of Sidney Ohio for 31 years, mentioned she liked to help her friends whenever they had coin related questions.
Deisher joined the Coin World staff in 1981 after being offered the job while she was working at the Sidney Daily News. She wasn’t originally a coin collector but was very excited about the job opportunity. She said her favorite part about coins is, “Coins involve history, economics, metallurgy, archaeology, and it’s just a wonderful working experience.”
Deisher began writing when she was a mere ten years old for her local newspaper in North Carolina. Other occupations she has had in her career include political coverage in Virginia and she has also worked in radio and has produced educational films. Deisher talked about her favorite part about writing saying, “It’s a constant learning process, writing especially as a professional journalist, you have to keep up with current events and at Coin World every day was a learning experience.”
Deisher still writes a monthly column for Coin World and is very active in coin collecting on a national level. She’s currently researching for two new books that aren’t about coin collecting that she aspires to write. Deisher is also discussing another coin collecting book as well.
