Emotional bids delivered at livestock auction

Zane Wilkins showcases his dairy feeder.The Champaign County Jr. Fair livestock sale was highlighted by the community's generosity Friday. Several buyers teamed up to support two local 4-Hers who lost their fathers in tragic accidents over the last year.

Zane Wilkins of Cable sold his dairy feeder for $13,000.

Ninety-one buyers from across Ohio joined forces.

Howard Wilkins, 48, was killed in a snowmobile accident near his rural Cable home in the 2400 block of East Kanagy Road on January 7th around 8:45 p.m.

Wilkins, who was a hoof trimmer and Salem Township Trustee, was driving a Yamaha northbound through a field when he struck a tree.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sarah Dill of rural West Liberty sold her steer for $10,650 to a group of buyers.

Jeffrey Dill, 48, was killed in a one-vehicle rollover crash on State Route 29 northwest of Urbana on December 3rd around 7:30 p.m.

Dill was driving a 2006 Dodge pickup when he lost control on a curve just west of State Route 296. The westbound truck went off the right side of the road, struck a tree, and rolled over.

Dill was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dill was a longtime Champaign County Fair Board member.
