Bellefontaine Board of Education accepts slightly smaller federal grant money (Audio included)

The Bellefontaine Board of Education conducted their second August meeting Monday night.The acceptance of 6 federal Title grants highlighted the agenda.
The grants provide financial assistance for students with reading problems (Title I), delinquent students (Title I-D), school improvements (Title I School Improvement), special education students (IDEIA Grant), professional development for teachers (Improving Teacher Quality), and rural and low income families (Rural and Low Income Grant).
Superintendent Beth Harman indicated that the federal government cut the grant funding by between 5 and 10%.Harman noted that a teacher that the grant covered is now being paid through the general fund.
Bill Badenhop was officially approved as the new high school principal.
The board accepted the resignations of bus driver Debra Green, custodian Dennis Harris, and supervisor of maintenance Jeff Payne.Harris and Payne are retiring effective December 31, 2013.
The board approved the supplemental contracts of assistant football coach Jason Brown, Key Club advisor Angela Haver, Title I coordinator Pat Martz, special education coordinator Jill Payne, andbuilding sysops Laura Atwood, Sandra Chervenak, Adrienne Dearwester, and Lindy Ross-Penhorwood.
Darin Vermillion was approved as a volunteer boys high school golf assistant.
Elementary teachers Lindsay Hogan (November) and Sheridon Storm (October) were both granted maternity leaves.
Nick Heydinger and Brooke Turner were named high school students of the month for August.
The board will next meet on September 9th.The time has been changed to 7:30 p.m.
