Troopers from the Springfield Post of the State Highway Patrol responded to a fatal accident on US Route 68 just south of SR 55 in the Urbana Township section of Champaign County Saturday afternoon around 3:15.
Spencer G. Cauley, 39, of Urbana, was southbound on US 68 in a 1991 GMC pickup when he crossed the center line into the northbound path of a 2010 International semi operated by James H. Long, 33, of Forest, striking the semi head on.
Cauley was pronounced dead at the scene by the Champaign County Coroner.
Long sustained a lower back injury but refused treatment.
The Champaign County Sheriff's Office, Urbana Fire Department, Urbana Medic Squad, and Urbana Police Department assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
It's the first fatal accident in Champaign County this year.
