Motorcycle/deer accident over the weekend

A local motorcyclist struck a deer on Northwest Parkway just east of Darby-Pottersburg Road in rural Union County Sunday morning around 5:40.

The Marysville Post of the State Highway Patrol reports that Gary Hillyard, 61, of 550 West 6th Street, Marysville, was riding a 2010 Harley-Davidson Fatboy westbound on Northwest Parkway when he struck a deer that entered the roadway.

Hillyard, who was wearing a helmet and protective gear, suffered minor injuries.

He was not transported.

Hillyard was not cited.

The motorcycle went off the right side of the roadway.

The bike suffered moderate damage. The deer was killed.

Early Monday morning, a State Highway Patrol cruiser struck a deer on Route 33 in Union County.

The trooper was not injured.
