Passing driver causes injury crash near Quincy

A Quincy fire truck on SR 235A driver attempting to pass farm equipment caused an injury accident on State Route 235 north of Quincy Monday just before noon.

The Logan County Sheriff's Office reports that Ellsworth Harris Jr., 69, of Huber Heights, was driving a 2007 Chevy pickup southbound on 235 near County Road 35 when he attempted to pass a couple of farm vehicles.

Harris, who was towing a boat trailer, swerved off the left side of the road and sideswiped a northbound 2000 Honda Civic operated by Donald Smith, 79, of 9636 Lakeshore Drive East, Huntsville.

Harris and his wife, Lynn, 65, suffered minor injuries. They were transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital by Quincy EMS.

Smith was not injured.

All three occupants were wearing their seat belts.

Harris was cited for improper passing.

His pickup had moderate damage. The trailer was not damaged and the boat suffered minor damage.

The Civic was heavily damaged.
