The Piqua Post of the State Highway Patrol reports that alcohol use is suspected in a one-vehicle fatal accident on Stoker Road in southwest Shelby County near Houston Friday night around 9:30.
Nicholas Browning (pictured), 29, of Sidney, was driving a ’98 Oldsmobile Bravada southbound on Stoker Road when he failed to negotiate a left curve, then went off the right side of the road and struck a railroad embankment.
The SUV overturned and came to rest on its wheels.
Two passengers were ejected.
Brittney Smith, 21, of Sidney, was pronounced dead at Wilson Memorial Hospital.
Ryan Presswood, 26, of Minster, was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital then transferred by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital. He is listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit as of early Sunday morning.
Browning was charged with aggravated vehicular assault and lodged in the Shelby County Jail.
Additional charges are pending and the accident remains under investigation.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Houston Medics assisted at the scene.
