Two defendants were sentenced and two pleaded guilty before Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark O’Connor earlier this week.
Justin Smith (pictured), 34, of Bellefontaine, was sentenced to six years in prison. He was previously found guilty by a jury of felonious assault.
Last November, Smith allegedly attacked former friend Carl Stevenson, 51, of 420 East Patterson Avenue, Bellefontaine, in the victim’s backyard.
The brutal beating seriously injured Stevenson, who spent several days at Grant Medical Center in Columbus.
The incident was witnessed by a neighbor.
Smith faced up to eight years in prison.
Jeremy Ray, 21, of Marysville, was sentenced to five years community control and ordered to pay court costs and attorney fees for non-support of dependents.
John Watkins, 20, of Bellefontaine, pleaded guilty to theft and was placed on the prosecutor’s pretrial diversion program.
Anthony Brenner, 40, of Celina, pleaded guilty to non-support of dependents. A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing is scheduled for July 2nd.
