Inmate escapes county jail

Deputies from the Logan County Sheriff's Office are searching for an inmate that left a work detail Tuesday morning around 10:30.

Joseph Lee Knox (pictured), 36, was working as a trustee in the county jail garden area (outside the secured jail) when he went missing.

The jail kitchen staff and fellow inmates alerted the corrections staff.

The sheriff's office, Bellefontaine Police Department, and State Highway Patrol are searching the area for Knox.

Deputies will be working with the Logan County Prosecutor's Office to file an escape charge.

Knox was serving time for contempt of court charges from Logan County Common Pleas Court. He was lodged on July 19th. He was set to be released on October 22nd.

If you know his whereabouts, contact the sheriff's office at 592-5731.
