Lutheran Community Services programs aid Logan County (Audio included)

Lutheran Community Services works to aid Logan County with five programs; Loving Hands Adult Daycare, Our Daily Bread, the Christmas Food and Toy Basket program, a thrift store, and food pantry.

Loving Hands is an adult daycare facility for the elderly. The service provides meals and snacks, entertainment, and social time. Transportation to the facility is also available. Loving Hands Adult Day Care is located at 416 West Chillicothe Avenue and can be reached at 593-9822 for questions.

Our Daily Bread is a free meal program available to the public. The program is from 4 to 6 pm during the week. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday it is held at 223 Oakland Square (across for the Bellefontaine Fire Department). On Tuesday and Thursday it is at the Eagles Annex at Indian Lake.

The Christmas Food and Toy Basket program gives food and toys to families in need during the holidays. Anyone who thinks they are eligible can stop by Our Daily Bread and the thrift store for an application. Every child under 10 years old is guaranteed a toy. Last year, Lutheran Community Services gave about $35 dollars worth of toys to every child and distributed over $50 dollars of food in each basket.

Another option available under the Christmas Food and Toy Basket program is the ability to adopt a family. Individuals, groups, or companies can adopt a family. If someone adopts a family they are asked to provide a meal and they have the option to also provide gifts for the family. For more information on this option contact Lutheran Community Services Executive Director Kim Collum at 592-9914.

The thrift store and food pantry are located at 223 Oakland Square and are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm and Saturday from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm. The food pantry works off a voucher system. With a voucher every member in a family will receive three meals a day for three days. Last year, the food pantry gave out over 16,000 meals to local families.

The thrift store provides funds for the Lutheran Community Services programs. The thrift store accepts gently-used items as donations and sells them at a reduced price. The thrift store accepts donations during business hours and even provides pick up for donations, Money generated by the store stays in Logan County and funds Loving Hands, Our Daily Bread, the Christmas program, and the food pantry.

Collum shares what Lutheran Community Services does for Logan County.

Lutheran Community Services is the October recipient of the Community Spotlight Grant, sponsored by Liberty National Bank and Steve Austin’s Auto Group.
