The Marysville Post of the State Highway Patrol along with the Bellefontaine Police Department and Logan County Sheriff's Office will operate an OVI checkpoint to deter and intercept impaired drivers in Logan County Friday evening. The exact location will be announced Friday morning.
"Based on provisional data, there were 353 impaired driver related fatal crashes that killed 1,008 people last year in Ohio," Lieutenant Ron Raines (pictured), commander of the Marysville Post said. "Statewide, troopers make an average 25,000 impaired driver arrests each year to help combat this traffic safety problem. OVI checkpoints are designed to deter impaired driving and remove those that don't heed the warning."
Troopers are again reminding those who plan to consume alcohol to also plan for a sober driver, or make other appropriate travel arrangements before drinking.
