Updated: Chiefs basketball drops home opener, Tigers roll – Friday scoreboard (Audio included)

Several area boys basketball teams were in action Friday.

On 1390 WBLL, the Bellefontaine varsity Chiefs dropped their home opener to Springfield Shawnee 46-39.

The Chiefs led most of the game.

The Braves took their first lead midway through the fourth quarter when sophomore Jaden Greenwood drilled a three-pointer.

The game was tied 36-36 with 2:06 remaining. The visitors closed the game with a 10-3 spurt.

The Braves outscored Bellefontaine 23-14 in the final quarter and hit 14-14 free throws. They were 22-for-28 at the foul line for the game.

Matt Gump scored 23 points for the Chiefs. He was named the Steve Austin's Auto Group Player of the Game.

For Springfield Shawnee, Jaelin Williams scored 12 points, Andrew Tincher tallied 11 points, and Greenwood added 10 points. Tincher was 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final period.

Bellefontaine falls to 0-2 and 0-1 in league play.

Springfield Shawnee improves to 2-1 and 1-0 in the league.

The JV Chiefs beat the Braves 48-36.

The Bellefontaine freshman boys were edged by Springfield Shawnee 53-51.

The West Liberty-Salem varsity boys rolled past Mechanicsburg 84-64.

Connor Woods recorded 16 points, Matt Bailey, Travis Mayse, and Landon Hormann each contributed 15 points, and Grant Burden added 14 points.

The varsity Tigers improve to 2-1 and 1-0 in league action.

The JV Tigers defeated Mechanicsburg 46-36.

Austin Miller tallied 14 points and Brandon Adams added 11 points.

The Benjamin Logan varsity boys won over visiting Greenon 71-52.

Blaine Ricketts contributed 26 points and Dalton Greene added 16 points and 14 rebounds.

The Raiders are 2-2, 1-0. They will visit Waynesfield-Goshen Saturday night.

The Benjamin Logan JV boys defeated Greenon 47-35.

Indian Lake fell at home to Urbana 77-44.

The Hillclimbers, the defending league champs, raced to a 34-17 halftime lead.

The Lakers are 0-4; the Hillclimbers are 3-0.

Triad defeated Springfield Catholic 67-57.

Chaz Adams led the Cardinals with 21 points. Triad is 1-3.

New Knoxville handled Waynesfield-Goshen 76-46.

Botkins blitzed Ridgemont 68-42. The Trojans are 4-0.

Fairlawn shot past Ft. Loramie 57-42.

Jackson Center won at Russia 51-46. The Tigers are 3-0, 2-0.

Lima Temple Christian beat Parkway 45-38.

Wapakoneta steamrolled Ada 74-26.

St. Henry defeated St. Marys 71-48.

Arlington blasted Hardin Northern 76-24.

Versailles outscored New Bremen 72-63.
