Logan County's third largest employer Thursday announced plans to expand its workforce by 242 jobs.
Midwest Express Inc. (MEI) also announced its intention to invest approximately $700,000 in the East Liberty plant.
This comes as very welcome news to Logan County, which has had unemployment rates hovering around 10 percent for a number of months.
"We are very excited about the development of this business opportunity and appreciative of the support we received from state and local agencies," said Tamaki Hashimoto, MEI President.
The move is a result of new business providing parts consolidation services to plants operated by Honda of America. MEI will be supporting on-site parts consolidation operations at Honda's Marysville and East Liberty plants. This will streamline part delivery into the auto plants by reducing parts handling and eliminating truck shuttles, which in turn reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
MEI started its parts logistics operations in 1987.
