Speedy Mart owner pleads guilty to drug charge; area man pleads to sex charge

Six defendants recently appeared before Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark O'Connor.

On February 13th, Speedy Mart owner Vaibhaukumar "Ricky" Patel, 36, pleaded guilty to permitting drug abuse and agreed to forfeiture of $50,000 and distribution of the balance of $173,000 seized by police.

A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing is scheduled for March 25th.

Last February, the Logan County Joint Drug Task Force and agents from the Ohio Investigative Unit executed a search warrant at Speedy Mart (pictured), 511 South Main Street.

The warrant was the result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking at the store.

Officers seized $173,487 in cash, K2 (synthetic marijuana), and several drug paraphernalia items.

The store was temporarily closed during the seizure.

Bernard Hartman (pictured), 20, of Piqua, pleaded guilty to sexual imposition.

A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing is scheduled for March 25th.

In October 2011, Hartman was indicted for gross sexual imposition (F3).

In February 2011, Hartman allegedly raped a 7-year-old boy at a west side residence.

The Bellefontaine Police Department charged Hartman with one count of rape.

Jason Crawford, 28, of Bellefontaine, was sentenced to five years intensive community control including drug treatment, the probation incentive program, and ordered to pay a $250 fine, court costs, and attorney fees for trafficking in drugs and possession of drugs.

Charles Louden, 29, of Wapakoneta, was sentenced to five years community control and ordered to pay a $500 fine, court costs, attorney fees, and restitution for grand theft.

Carmelita Johnson, 39, of Bellefontaine, was sentenced to 30 days in the Logan County Jail, two years community control, and ordered to pay court costs for permitting drug abuse.

Brock Rayles, 36, of Quincy, was sentenced to five years community control and ordered to pay court costs, attorney fees, and restitution for non-support of dependents and theft.
