Former JDC escapee Jacobs pleads guilty

Five defendants were sentenced and two pleaded guilty before Logan County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark O'Connor earlier this week.

Caleb Jacobs (pictured), 18, formerly of 11362 Oneida Path, Lakeview, pleaded guilty to felonious assault, assault, and escape.

Last March, Jacobs and fellow teens Danny Ellis Jr. and Devante Smith escaped from the Logan County JDC after attacking two corrections officers. The three teens were caught the following day.

One of the corrections officers suffered extensive head injuries from the assault.

In October, Jacobs was indicted for felonious assault (F1), escape (F3), and assault (F4).

A presentence investigation was ordered and sentencing is scheduled for March 29th.

Prosecutors are recommending a four-and-a-half year prison sentence. Jacobs faces a maximum sentence of 15 years.

Lawrence Beair Jr., 26, of Bellefontaine, pleaded guilty to non-support of dependents.

Adam Houchins (pictured), 22, of Lakeview, was sentenced to the West Central Community Based Correctional Facility, five years community control, and ordered to pay court costs and attorney fees for vandalism, tampering with coin machines, breaking and entering, and safecracking.

Kyle Smith, 26, of Bellefontaine, was sentenced to the West Central Community Based Correctional Facility, five years community control, and ordered to pay attorney fees and court costs for aggravated assault and a community control violation.

Scott Boggs, 32, of Bellefontaine, was sentenced to five years community control, a one-year driver's license suspension, and ordered to pay a $500 fine, attorney fees and court costs for receiving stolen property and offenses involving counterfeit controlled substances.

Chad Minnich, 32, of Miamisburg, was sentenced to five years community control and ordered to pay court costs and attorney fees for non-support of dependents.

Kayla Newland, 23, of Lima, was sentenced to five years community control and ordered to pay a $500 fine, court costs, and attorney fees for unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
