2013 Champaign County Fair Queen crowned (Audio & video included)

The anticipation could be felt throughout the fairgrounds on Sunday night as the 2013 Champaign County Fair Queen Ceremony was conducted in front of a full grandstand.

Kelly Weddell (Pictured), of Graham, was crowned the 2013 Champaign County Jr. Fair Queen In front of her family, peers, and all fair entrants alike on Sunday. Weddell, who finished runner-up in the 2012 Champaign County Fair Queen contest, said she’s very excited for what’s to come for her as the 2013 Champaign County Fair Queen noting, “I think most of all I’m looking forward to being able to help out with the other shows and being able to help out a lot with the younger people, as a camp counselor I’ve always loved that interaction with the younger kids and I look forward to actually being able to impact some of their lives”. Weddell has shown horses at the fair, has been a 4H camp counselor, and a 4H junior leader.

Rachel Evans, home schooled, finished 1st runner-up in the contest, and Olivia Meyers, of Graham, finished 2nd runner-up. The other contestants for the 2013 Champaign County Fair Queen were Rachel Broadstone, Michala Faulkner, Sierra Hoermle, Rachel House, Hannah Kilbride, Ashely Penhorwood, Hannah Watkins, and Caitlin Yoh.

Champaign County Family Court Judge Brett Gilbert was the Master of Ceremonies, and the contest Judges were Mayor Greg Kimball, Mayor Bill Bean, Stacy Barnhart, Mary Lee Gecowets, and Tim Cassidy (Who could not be in attendance).

Each contest received a t-shirt from the Champaign County Fair Board and a DVD and photos from the contest courtesy of Vernon Family funeral Homes. Weddell, Evans, and Meyers will also receive gifts from the Champaign County Fair Board, Leslie Broadstone, Sweet Annie’s, and Country Gentleman Redefined. Vernon Family Funeral Homes is also awarding cash prizes of $250, $150, and $50 to Weddell, Evans, and Meyers.
