A city woman was charged after police found animal feces and urine throughout her residence at 629 South Main Street Thursday night around 7:30.
Margaret Jentgens, 35, was issued a summons for harboring an unclean habitat.
The Bellefontaine Police Department was responding to a juvenile complaint when the officer noticed a foul odor coming from the residence.
After getting permission to enter the home, the officer discovered “a smell that burnt his nose and throat” as he walked through the residence.
Animal feces and urine were found in multiple rooms and the upstairs bathtub had standing water.
The officer said the home’s floors and countertops were soiled, too.
Five dogs and two cats live inside the home.
Patrick Jentgens told police that he planned on cleaning the home Thursday evening.
Mrs. Jentgens is scheduled to appear in Bellefontaine Municipal Court next Thursday.
Logan County Children’s Services assisted the police department.
