Ruth Ann Tallman, 73, of Huntsville, passed away Sunday morning, March 7, 2010 at her home.
She was born on January 21, 1937 in Russells Point, OH to the late Earl & Mary Mattox Thompson. She married Garth W. Tallman on September 5, 1957 in Huntsville, OH, and he died November 16, 2004.
She is survived by two children: Steve (Paula) Norviel, Bellefontaine, and Trish (Joe) Finnerty, Holt, MI, five grandchildren: Sarah Norviel, Dale Norviel, Andrea (Brad) Leonard, Brendan Finnerty, and Katie Finnerty, two great grandchildren: Max Montoney and Brody Leonard, four sisters: Patsy (Jay) Richardson, Huntsville, Virginia (Jim) Harpst, Huntsville, Bernie (Gerald) Wren, DeGraff, and Betty Thompson, St. Petersburg, FL, two brothers: Fred (Linda) Thompson, Huntsville, and Bob Thompson, Huntsville, and many special nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ruth Ann retired as a dietary aide after 37 years from Mary Rutan Hospital. She was a member of Amvets 39 Line Dancers and Curves. She enjoyed line dancing, fishing, and traveling.

Louise Katherine "Betsy" Prater, 86, of DeGraff, died at 4:23 PM Sunday, March 7, 2010, at Mary Rutan Hospital, Bellefontaine.
She was born in Dayton on November 7, 1923, a daughter of the late Albert G. and Louise B. Hofmann Bussinger. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Bussinger; a brother-in-law, Charles Forsthoff; and brother and sister-in-law, Don & Mozelle Strayer.
On May 29, 1948, she married Jack M Prater in Dayton and he survives, along with son, Tom (Vicki) Prater of DeGraff; daughters, Kathy (Gary) McCulla of West Liberty; Joanne (Greg) Campbell of Quincy; Connie (Allen) Yutzy of Plain City; Linda (Steve) Brautigam of Quincy; Terry Prater of DeGraff; Sharon (Darrell) Heaberlin of DeGraff; Peg (Mike) Cook of West Liberty, and Jackie Prater of DeGraff; two brothers, George (Sarah) Bussinger of Centerville, and Robert (Wendy) Bussinger of California; two sisters-in-law, Adlena Bussinger and Ann Forsthoff both of Dayton; eleven grandchildren 5 step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and twelve step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews.
In 1941 she graduated from Julienne High School in Dayton, she was a member of St Patrick’s Catholic Church, and Miami Grange #2158. Betsy was a homemaker, farmer’s wife and long time poll worker. Prior to marriage she was a civilian worker at Wright-Patterson Field.
The Rev. Patrick L Sheridan officiates a mass at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Bellefontaine. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff. Burial is in the Philadelphia Cemetery, Bellefontaine.

Clarence “Slim” N. Springer, 90, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Sunday, March 7th at his residence.
He was born in Waynoka, OK on August 16, 1919 to the late Edward P. and Ella (Sackett) Springer.
On August 26, 1945 he married Barbara McCormick in Covington, KY and she survives along with two daughters, Karen (Ralph) Huntzinger of Columbus and Terry Sickles of Louisville, KY; two brothers, James (Judy) Springer of Bartlesville, OK and Eugene (Anita) Springer of Pawhuska, OK; two sisters, Leona Cornejo of Amarillo, TX and Dorothy Sprouse of Bartlesville, OK; six grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death is an infant son, Thomas Dale Springer; brothers, Dewell and Paul Springer; and a sister, Rosemary Miller.
Clarence was a group leader at D.A.B. and retired in 1983 after 28 years of service. Later he worked for Cherokee Hills Golf Course.
A WWII Army veteran, he was a member of the Huntsville Presbyterian Church, a member of the American Legion Post #173, and formerly the Hi-Point See-Saw’s. He enjoyed bowling, golf and playing cards.
Pastor Karen Cassedy and Rev. Russell D. Williams will conduct a funeral service at 11:00 am on Thursday, March 11th at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine where friends may call from 4 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday, March 10th. Burial will be in the Huntsville Cemetery with military honors by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.

Carroll B. Allen, 83, of Huntsville, Ohio, died peacefully Thursday night, March 4, 2010 at his home.
He was born March 1, 1927, in Lakeview, Ohio, a son of the late J. Byron and Genevieve Norviel Allen. He was also preceded in death by his brother, C. Donald Allen.
On December 16, 1950, he married Patricia Ann Hodies and she survives. He is also survived by two daughters: Beckey Allen and Carol (Al) Souza, both of Huntsville, five grandchildren: Jason (Kristen) Scasny and Keith (Mandy) Scasny, both of Perrysburg, OH, Jenna (Fred) Brannon of Kirtland, OH, Luke (Rachel) Scasny, of Cincinnati, OH, and Christa (Cory) Thornton, of San Diego, CA, and three great grandchildren: Asia Brannon and Olivia and Aiden Scasny.
He was devoted to his entire family and his beloved dogs were his constant companions, especially Missy. Carroll enjoyed golfing and fishing. He enjoyed every summer in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with his many dear friends there.
As a World War II Navy veteran, he proudly served in the South Pacific on the LST 755 and was honorable discharged. He was employed by Allen’s Garage in Lakeview, 25 years at Airstream in Jackson Center, and 13.5 years at KT Corporation in Shelbyville, IN.
He was a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a member of the American Legion, Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Lion’s Club, and the Ohio LST Amphiles Association. He was president of the Versailles, Ohio Development Association. He was a volunteer firefighter for the Lakeview Fire Department and its Fire Chief for seven years. He served on the school board for Stokes Local Schools.
Carroll was a Civil War buff and traveled to many famous war sites. He was a member of the Civil War Preservation Trust.
He will be honored during a memorial service at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview, officiated by Reverend Bryan Meadows at 1:00 p.m., March 13, 2010, with visitation two hours prior to services.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in his name to Universal Home Health and Hospice Care, 701 South Main Street, Bellefontaine, OH 43311.
Virgil Elroy Marine, 91, passed away on Friday, March 5th, 2010 at his home in Zanesfield, OH. He was born on January 26, 1919 in West Liberty, OH. The son of Arthur and Celesta Belle (King) Marine, he was married to Glendora Corwin on March 23, 1941, and she preceded him in death in 1994. His son, Michael, and daughter, Barbara Mabry was with him at his passing.
Other surviving family members include brothers, James and Floyd Marine, sister, Dorothy Humble; grandsons, Daniel, Dale, David, and Duane Mabry, and Matthew Marine; and seven great grandchildren.
Virgil attended West Liberty schools and Urbana Junior College before entering the Navy during WWII. He became a farmer and then postmaster in Zanesfield from which he retired in 1979. He and Glendora spent the first part of their retirement years in Florida during the winter returning to Ohio in the summer where he would grow a large garden for family and friends. He was always known for his willingness to help others and his gregarious nature. The world is a better place because he was here.
A funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Monday, March 8th at the Kauffman-Eichholtz Funeral Home in West Liberty where friends may call from 3 to 6 on Sunday, March 7th. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.

Robert Lee Skeen, 70, of Bellefontaine, died at 7:39 PM Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Riverside Hospital, Columbus.
A son of the late Thomas Russell and Helen Margaret Kirkpatrick Skeen, he was born on May 28, 1939, in Bellefontaine. He was also preceded in death by a son Eurotis Russell Skeen.
On February 14, 1974, he married the former Betty LeFever in Russells Point and she survives, along with two daughters, Tammi Clerkin of New Smyrna Beach, Florida and Penny (Randy) Bechtel of Bellefontaine; two sons, Donald Lee (Vivian) Clevenger and John R. (Dawn) Skeen, both of Alabama; a brother, Jim (Karen) Skeen of Bellefontaine; two sisters, Judith (Donn) Patton of Belle Center and Peggy (Bill) LeFever of Huntsville; 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
The 1957 graduate of Lewistown High School was an Air Force Veteran, and member of the Hi-Point See Saws Square Dance Club. He also volunteered at Mary Rutan Hospital. He was an OTR driver and retired from Roadway Express.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and traveling.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff, with Rev. A.W. Purdin officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial is in the Fairview Cemetery, Mutual.

Bertha Lucille Hughes, 96, formerly of Bellefontaine, died at 12:05 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at Green Hills Center, West Liberty.
She was born Nov. 10, 1913, in Bellefontaine, a daughter of the late Levi and Anna Rae Legge.
On Sept. 3, 1931, she married Orville Leroy Hughes in Kenton and he died December 27, 1992. She was also preceded in death by three brothers; Everett, Ardell, and Otis Legge, four sisters; Hattie Woods Shreve, Myrtle Goings, Martha Fraley and Elsie Legge, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Survivors include a son, Rev. Leroy (Margery) Hughes, and three daughters; Mary Lucille (Earl) Allen, Phyllis (Charles) Allen all of DeGraff and Martha (Paul) Overholser of Bellefontaine, 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 30 great-great grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren.
A Homemaker, she was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union in Bellefontaine. She loved to sing and play dominos with family. She was also a Sunday School teacher.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the Church of Christ in Christian Union, Bellefontaine, with Rev. Richard Cartwright officiating. Burial is in the Spring Hill Cemetery, Springhills.
The family will receive friends at Rexer-Riggin-Madden Funeral Home, DeGraff on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010 from 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
