Robert E. Shields

Robert E. Shields, 72, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2013 at James Cancer Hospital, Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 12, 1941 in Bellefontaine, a son of the late Albert and Juanita (Parker) Shields.

On April 28, 1973 in Bellefontaine, he married the former Mary Lu Buscher and she preceded him in death on January 22, 2004. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Wilda Shields and a son-in-law, Steven L. Skidmore.

He was a supervisor with Glacier, formerly D.A.B of Bellefontaine, where he retired in 2003 with 40+ years of service and was a farmer his entire life.

He was a graduate of Belle Center High School and attended the First Church of God in Bellefontaine. He enjoyed John Wayne movies and westerns. He also enjoyed hunting and camping with family and watching the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include his first wife, Carol D. Shields, the mother of Robert G. (Margaret) Shields of Bellefontaine, Gary A. (Susie) Shields of Bellefontaine, Lisa C. (David) Zuhlsdorf of Bowling Green, Teresa D. (David) Grubbs of Dublin and Dottie Skidmore of Bellefontaine; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Norma Jean Detterer of Bellefontaine and a brother, Donald (Sue) Shields of Bellefontaine and close friend Joanne Shaner of Huntsville.

Pastor Ray Headings will officiate the funeral on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine where friends may call on Friday, June 28, 2013 from 4-7 p.m and also an hour prior to the service on Saturday. Burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, New Hampshire, Ohio.

Eichholtz Funeral Home, Bellefontaine assisted the family with arrangements.
