Everett Leroy “Cookie” Cook

Everett Leroy “Cookie” Cook, 89, of Lakeview, Ohio died Friday, July 12, 2013 at his home.

He was born on July 4, 1924 in Lima, OH to the late Jonas Andrew & Leota Emma Hundley Cook. On November 27, 1946, he married the former Ernetta Joan Decker and she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a grandchild, two great grandchildren, four sisters, Virginia Mercer, Evelyn June Cummins, Jo Ann Foor, and Shirley Lou Cook, and two brothers, Charles Junior Cook and Wilber Eugene Cook.

He is survived by four children, Wayne Eugene (Pat) Cook, Joyce Ann (Steve) Kesler, both of Elida, OH, Gloria Jean (Mike) Closson of Delphos, OH, and Karen Charlese (Janet) Blankenship of Gilboa, OH, 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, five sisters, Vera Ulmer, of Sandusky, OH, Betty Williams of Bellefontaine, OH, Mary Alice Maiami of Sandusky, Velma Marcile Ricketts of Bellefontaine, and Doris Sheldon of Alger, OH, a brother, Lester Cook of Russells Point, OH, former wife, Julia Brown, whom he married on August 25, 1972, and long time companion, Shirley Titus of Lakeview and their granddaughter Tessie Titus, who they raised together.

Mr. Cook was a decorated Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of VFW Post #1275 of Lima, American Legion Post #96 of Lima, 82nd Airborne Division of WWII, 82nd Airborne Division Association 507th and 504th, 17th Airborne Division Association, Doyle R. Miller Amvets Post #39 of Lakeview, and FOE Aeries #370 of Lima. He retired from Lima Packing House-Pride of Lima, Keystone Meat Companies after 55 years as a butcher.

Pastor Mark Foor will begin funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview. Visitation is Tuesday, July 16th from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial is in Lima Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors.

Memorial contribution may be given in his name to St. Jude’s or Boys Town.
